Kinney Bungalow Weddings - Kayla and Austin

This was one of those days where the weather plays games with you all week… one minute the forecast says it’s going to rain on the wedding day, the next it’ll be sunny, then rainy, then sunny. This wedding day continued in that crazy back-and-forth all day long. The ceremony was held outside at Kinney Bungalow, as was the cocktail hour. The staff did an incredible job of being prepared for whatever happened with the weather. The floral decor by Westerly Florist Rosana was absolutely perfect. Green vines adorned an arch that the groom welded for the occasion. After the ceremony, the couple, their attendants and I were able to sneak off to the beach in Narragansett to make some portraits. After the last portrait was completed, we started the treck back to the vehicle. We were chatting, shaking sand out of our shoes and the bride’s gown, when the clouds began to roll in. Fast. We picked up the pace, made it to the vehicle, and literally the instant that the door shut, the rain began to pour. The timing was perfect!

I focused on candids a lot with this wedding as there were lots of tearful moments as well as hilarious ones. Multiple surprise readings during the ceremony made it very special, and the reception toasts left guests crying with emotion and crying with tears. It’s important not to just snap a picture of someone reading a speech but to keep shooting it until you get shots that reflect the tone and content of the speech. I also like to watch carefully for reactions. I used some external flashes to create contrast in the portraits when it was starting to get dark, and also to light the couple at night. I love a shot of the couple with their reception taking place in the background.
